God’s Cool — Blake Pierson

Deuteronomy 34:4

S I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.

O Earlier on in the story God told Moses that he would not get to experience the promise land for himself, because of an incident where Moses was disobedient to God. In light of that, God seemed somewhat cruel in this verse.

It seemed like He was showing Moses the Promised Land, and saying “Na-Na, you can see it, but you can’t touch it!” My study Bible gave me some insight into this verse. Apparently in Hebrew thought, ownership of land took place once it was SEEN. When God showed Moses the Promise Land He was allowing Moses to be the one who took ownership of the land. God allowed Moses to be the one to take hold of God’s promise on behalf of the entire nation of Israel. God was faithful to Moses in spite of his own unfaithfulness. That’s cool.

A There are consequences for my sin, our sin. We know that. God’s forgiveness completely eradicates any condemnation between us and Himself. However, God rarely chooses to erase the practical consequences of our sin. God will use our consequences to teach us and shape our souls. That’s a good thing.

I am encouraged though, that God’s heart isn’t about making sure that we live out the consequences for the sake of justice. In one hand He allows us to experience consequences for our growth and good for eternity. In His other hand He is blessing us, and giving us what we don’t deserve simply because He loves us. Our God is cool like that!

P JJesus thanks that I’m done with that heady journal! I thank You for showing me Your love for me through Your word. Help me to learn to be grateful for Your discipline in my life. Thank you that it’s never about me paying a price so that we’re even. Thank you that You bless me when I don’t deserve it.

I love You Lord!

nice! i’ve learned that The consequences of sin although difficult are still times God will use to our benefit if we are humble, repentant and willing to grow and learn the lessons. Being grateful for discipline is hard…but there is grace in the process.
    I love you bro!
