Redeemed — Michael Calabrese

Leviticus 25:54-55

S Even if he is not redeemed in any of these ways, he and his children are to be released in the Year of the Jubilee, for the Israelites belong to me as servants. They are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

O Here God spells it out for us. We are His. He redeemed the Israelites out of Egypt. He wants back what is His, us.

Again God has given a concrete example of being saved. Jews would become slaves if they were poor, hoping for some help. Just as we become a slave to our sin, we are poor and think it will help us. God wants us, we are His and wants us free of our slavery for what He can give us. Jesus paid the price for our redemption. We are free to go back to God.

A There is so much here. The reminder that I am His and He has paid for my redemption, to allow me to return to Him. This is powerful. Some of the nature of sin, why I am drown to it….I am poor. Yet Jesus offers me riches.

As I feel the pull of temptation, I need to remember that though I may be poor, and the temptation may offer something, it is slavery. jesus offers me freedom and has already paid the price for me.

P Jesus, thank you for redeeming me, allowing me to be free of slavery. Help me use this truth to ehlp me rebuff the temptations of sin.

In your name I pray,

Amen

Isn’t it facinating that we sometimes act as if it is better for us to live in slavery rather than freedom; choosing to wallow in our sin. Good observation, Michael. I want to live free in Christ, never taking His life-giving freedom for granted.
