God’s Timetable — Jeremy Chandler

Acts 1:6-7

S “When the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, are you going to free Israel now and restore our kingdom?” “’The Father sets those dates,’ he replied, ‘and they are not for you to know.’”

O Jesus joins the disciples giving them directions to receive the Holy Spirit and then proceed to spread the word of God throughout all the land to the ends of the earth. The disciples, having spent many years hearing of this great kingdom they would experience, grew very anxious knowing it must be near now that Jesus’ death and resurrection had taken place. Their timeline seems quite clear to them; Jesus was alive, then he was dead, resurrected, so it must be time for the Lord to set us free. But Jesus tells them to not be so quick with their thoughts and to listen to his instructions.

A How many times do we wonder what God has in store for us next? Or when His return will be? Jesus speaks to all of us in Acts when he tells us it isn’t for us to know, it isn’t for us to worry about. God is in direct power of when and how He will handle everything. Knowing this and believing this will set us free from what we have no control over. So, instead of being impatient about His unfinished business in your life, trust in God and His timetable.

P Lord, help me to remember that my life on earth is merely preparation for eternity. Jesus’ last commandment to us before his ascension was to spread your word to the ends of the earth. Let me focus on that, as I have control over this task and help me to leave all other worries at your feet. Amen
