Intent of the Heart — Gabe Barreiro

Luke 21:1-4

S As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

O Jesus was not afraid to say what he felt in his heart. He gave his disciples a warning about the pride that he saw in the Jewish leadership. The Jewish leaders tried to impress others and God by there lengthy prayers and by there gifts of money. Jesus teaches the disciples to give from the heart not just to impress others by fulfilling a religious exercise.

A Today I am reminded that God sees thing differently than we do. God sees the real intent of my heart. The widow gave out of poverty and most of us give out of excess. Her heart shows greater commitment to God even though she gave a small amount. I’m inspired by her sacrificial giving.

Today I’m challenged to be sacrificial in walk with God. I want to go out of my way to be a blessing to others. I want to go out of my way to take time for my family. I want to give God all of my life. I don’t want to do it for others to see. I want to serve the Lord out of a pure heart. I’m not looking for a pat on the back because I know God sees my heart and I have nothing to prove to anyone. There is real freedom I feel today knowing God knows my heart.

P Search me Oh God. Look deep with in my heart. See if there be anything at all that would: keep me from Loving you, keep me from knowing you , keep me from serving you dear Lord.
