Devotion — Jennier Garner
Luke 14:26
S If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters- yes even his own life- he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
O Jesus is challenging the devotion of the crowd. He explains to them what it takes to follow Him. They must be willing to forsake everything for Him- even their very lives. It’s not too difficult to say “I would die for my faith”. We live in a country where the chances of us actually being faced with that decision are slim to none.
A However, choosing to lay down our lives for Christ happens to us on a daily basis on a much more subtle scale. Everyday we are faced with the dilemma of fulfilling our own wishes and desires or to lay them down at Christ feet in an act of obedience. And in every decision we make, we are either saying yes to Him or we are saying no to Him. It could be loving the “unlovable”, giving up our time when we really just wanted to be on our way, or running from immorality instead of letting temptation dangle itself just inside our reach. When He asks us to step out in faith, does fear or pride say “I just can’t do it” or are we willing to be the disciple He has called us to be and say “yes” regardless of the cost. Choosing to live for Christ happens in the daily decisions we are faced with. Becoming the disciple He wants us to be is realized in every act of surrender and obedience we make.
P Lord, my life is yours. Pride and fear are not what you have called me too. You are my savior and king and I want every facet of my life to be under your authority- from the smallest to the largest.
In Jesus Name-Amen
Amen

Jen,
Great point; it is the subtle ways that we need to be faithful to the Lord because it is the subtle ways that the enemy sneaks into our lives. We need to practice in the little things so that when the “big” things hit, we are prepared.
