We Are Responsible — Janelle Chandler
Matthew 25:1-4
S Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.
O I love the parables that Jesus tells us to make a point and this is a great one that shows a lot of clarity on what it means to be ready and prepared. We will miss the boat completely if we wait until the last minute to get things in order.
A Too often I find myself putting blame on others for my spiritual growth and wanting someone else to do something about it. Or sometimes I think I will deal with those issues some other day when I have more time, they are probably not that big of a deal anyway. But would I be thinking the same way if I knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow. He has given me everything I need to be His disciple and I still waste time and resources. It is my responsibility to be prepared and be responsible for my own spiritual condition. No one is going to bring my extra oil.
P Dear Lord, Thank you for everything you have given me, please help me to check myself regularly. This is it, this is the time I want to be fully prepared and ready. I want my relationship with you to be completely my own and I do not want to be scrambling at the last minute. I know that it is my own and it is my desire to grow in you Lord. I want to have leftovers.
Love me, Amen

Life could be a very long journey but we don’t know until we get to the finish line. Therefor, we need to bring all the oil we can carry to keep our lamps lit. The only way to fill our oil jug is to stay close to God in His word. I, myself, often feel that I need to have oil for others to share but it’s not that God tells us to look out for ourselves but we can’t supply the oil for other, it’s impossible. This scripture is one of my favorite bible parables. Thank you for the great word!
