Revelation and the Mysteries of God–Daniel Poetzl

Revelation 10:4-7
S 4And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down. 5Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! 7But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”
O Throughout history mankind has been searching for answers to the deepest questions of life, such as: Who are we? Why do we exist? Is there a God? If there is a God, who is he? What is he? These deep questions have been dominant fixtures in the thoughts and traditions of every culture and civilization from creation till now. As Christians we believe that God has granted us the revelation to answer many of these deep questions of man. God has revealed Himself through his word (the Bible), and through personal relationship through his son, Jesus. We can now know and experience who God is and who we are in him and through him. And yet, even though all of the revelation that we have been given, deep questions still remain. We know God, and yet sometimes we still feel like God is such a mystery to us, and we struggle with the meaning to every day occurances in life. As Christians we have relationship with God himself, the creator of the universe, and yet profound questions in life remain. Why does evil seem to flourish on this earth? Why does life often seem so painful? How can horrible things happen to good people who love and follow Christ?
A The answers to many of these questions come from deep exploration into God’s word, and honestly many answers come from going through pain and hardship and trusting God despite our questions. Yet this scripture points out that in fact we are still living in the mystery of God. We have not received the full revelation of who he is and who we are in relation to him. These scriptures, I think speak into these questions and the hope we have in God. What I can apply to my life through reading these verses is this:
- God is eternal and all-powerful, beyond all measure and human comprehension. Rev10:6 says “And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it.” God’s mighty power and divine character is a comfort to me because I know that I believe and trust in a God that is far more powerful than anything I could ever understand. If I could fully understand him, then he obviously wouldn’t be all that powerful. Honestly, my comprehension is not all that great! God is far beyond all that we could ever imagine.
- Yet as I mentioned, questions will always remain. And the great news is that God has promised to further reveal himself to us. Think of how exciting and profound this is. What little I know of God already is mind boggling – his power, his majesty, his creation, his love, his mercy, the list is endless! The deep questions that humanity has always struggled to understand have been revealed to us and even more revelation is coming. “But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” Rev 10:7. Think of all the new things we will learn about God and his character as well as about us and how we will function in his eternal kingdom. I feel so privileged to be counted worthy to receive such deep revelation into the mysteries of God.
P Thank you God, that you have revealed yourself to us in such deep and meaningful ways. Any yet even though we still sometimes feel like life is a mystery and we can’t fully understand your ways, we stand firm in the belief that you are greater than our human understanding. Help us to live for you and we look forward with eager expectation to your further revelation to us, personally and to all mankind. Amen.

Daniel, good stuff. the granduer of God in always unfolding. I feel so much freedom in knowing that I don’t need an answer to everything in my life. I trust that God will reveal himself…he has. In the mean time when questions arise the key for me has been to be willing to wait and stay hungry seaching for him.

Daniel, I read your journal entry and have been thinking about it for couple days. Thank you for the reminder about the mystery of God. It is a reminder that he has the overall plan. He has the control. it is easy to get lost in the minutia of my life and what God has planned for me. I sometimes don’t think about his overall plan, and how wondrous it is.

Daniel, what a good read here! I am too constantly amazed by Him in all he is and continues to be in my life. We know certain small aspects of things like: How he formed our earth and created all things and set the universe how he wanted it to be–that all of this is not evolutionary morphing from one shift to another as darwin espoused, but was created in 6 days! But to get a grip of everything He knows about our life, our world, his creation is too great for me to comprehend. I too am thankful that he has revealed himself to me in such a personal way, and also look forward to all that will be revealed in due course–”Im my fathers house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you.”–jesus
