Developing a Photo Album of Spiritual Conquest–Gabe Barreiro

Psalm 143:5-6

S I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

O David the Psalmist is despairing. He is facing great darkness and difficulty to the point of exhaustion (v4my spirit grows faint). It’s interesting that in this dark time of his life he is aware of yet another struggle; his own unrighteousness. (V2 do not bring your servant judgment…no one living is righteous…).he knows that sin is to be found in him and he is concerned that God’s judgment will condemn him to remain in his troubles.

David begins to reflect on what God has done on the past. He remembers the promises fulfilled and of the faithfulness of God in his life up to this point. Going through the photo album of spiritual conquest becomes an anchor of hope for him. David’s alienation and despair grows dim as he remembers, meditates, considers the acts of God, and the history of redemption. One thing is left… to cry out with confidence.

A This verse really hit me today. I began to reflect of where I have been and what God has done and I could feel my spirit soar. I am in awe of what the Lord has done in my life. He has been so good, so faithful and redemptive in so many ways.

Sometimes I feel stuck, despair, frustration and it affects my perspective on life. Sometimes I get locked in my mind with negative, hopeless thinking and it affects my perspective on life. Sometimes bad things happen and it seems impossible to rise above the fear or hurt or the dark clouds in my life. Today I know that when I meditate, remember, consider what God has done in my life that in the midst of those hard times my spirit can soar in hope that God will come through again.

My wife has been working on developing our photo albums recently. It been fun to look at old pictures of us and the kids and the places and things we have done. It has warmed our hearts and we have been encouraged by our lives together. In the same way when we look at the photo album of spiritual conquest in our own lives we are encouraged and our hearts are warmed with hope of a bright future. The current difficult we face looks dim in the light of the greatness of God.

P Lord, thank you for your faithfulness in my life. You have been so good to me. Help me to remember, meditate and consider the spiritual conquest we have been through. I want to have hope for the future and live in peace, confidence and joy today. I declare that I am dependent on you. I surrender to you today and choose to live my life for your honor and glory. I love you Lord. Amen

I love your story, Gabe. God has brought you a long way from your days as a teenager in L.A. It is so encouraging to look back at all God has done for us in the past. I certainly need that encouragement as I face current challenges.
