A New Deal - RSaari
John 1:17
S For the law was given through Moses; God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.
O I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. The difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Or should I say the difference between the Old Covenant and New Covenant. Moses was really the who brought the Old Covenant to Israel. He brought the Law. This was the path of salvation for the Jews. The covenant was, “If you do this, then God will do this.” And over and over we see Israel breaking the covenant. So we hear Paul say that the Law didn’t work. It didn’t bring about salvation, only condemnation because it was too hard. Then we have the New Covenant. Here we see that the New Covenant is a Covenant of “God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.” No wonder this one is better…
A I love that we are no longer under the law. Not because that means I don’t have to be good or moral, but because it means that if I fail, which I do consistently, I’m not breaking the Covenant. I may be sinning and need to repent, but God is not going to turn His back on me, because this Covenant is about His “unfailing love and faithfulness”. It has nothing to do with me or my response. Once I accept Jesus, I’m in. I still need to be working on my stuff…but once I’m in, I’m in! His love an faithfulness is “unfailing”!
P God, thank you so much for this New Covenant. Help me to never take advantage of your love and faithfulness. Keep me committed to the things that you have called me to. I’m so grateful for our relationship and the love you pour out on me. Help make me worthy of it. Amen.

It is an amazing thing that God loves us such much that He would pay the debt for our sin and still give us the “right” to keep sinning and love us still…pretty zany…Paul really struggled with that one, too.
It is a great joy to get to follow Jesus because He first loved us… He has settled the eternal life for us… now if we can let Him make us more like Him in our mortal life…so His works may be manifest to others.
At least that is where I live…
